FAQ

What is Getty-Cameras?

Getty-Cameras is a marketplace for photographers and videographers, serving buyers and sellers in the UK. Sellers list their cameras and kits for sale and then interested buyers are able to contact them through the contact form on their listing.

Why should I list my kit on your site?

Because our site gets high traffic from direct buyers, the most sales and the highest prices for your kit in comparison to our competitors.

Listing with us helps ensure your kit gets the best value for it.

Our listing process is quick and easy. Simply register on the site and then post an ad.

What fees do you charge?

Our only charge is a one-time listing fee of £9.99 for 3 months (works out to less than £4 a month!), giving you every opportunity to sell your gear. Transactions are managed through trusted payment provider PayPal. We take no commission on completed sales.

How do I edit my ad?

Login to your account and go to your dashboard. You should then see a list of your live ads. In the options column, you will see a pencil icon. Click this to edit your ad.

My ad is live and I now want to upgrade it to featured status. How do I do this?

If you would like to upgrade your ad to featured status after it has been posted, please visit the PayPal upgrade camera ad payment page. In the PayPal notes, please remember to include your Gettycameras.com username and the title of your ad. We will typically upgrade your ad in under 24 hours.

What is the ‘Bump this Ad’ button on my listing page?

For a small fee, you can choose to ‘bump’ your ad so that it’s shown on the front page under ‘Just Listed’. The front page generally gets more exposure than the pages further back.

How do I reply to a prospective buyer that has contacted me through the site?

To reply to a buyer, simply click the ‘reply’ button in the email you receive from us that has the buyer’s message. The ‘To’ field in the email will then automatically change to reflect the buyer’s email address.

What are the technical requirements for images I want to upload to my listing?

Please ensure images that you try to upload are smaller than 1MB each and are a .jpg, .gif or .png file type. Website http://imageoptimizer.net helps you easily reduce file size if needed.

How do I sell a product?

1 – Register on the site. You may want to consider using a temporary email address as prospective buyers will see your email address once you reply to a message you receive through the site.

2 – Please list all details accurately so the buyer knows exactly what they are looking at

3 – Take several clear and accurate pictures of your products. We also recommend taking a picture of your name, date and product written out on some paper and placed beside the product to give it authenticity.

4 – Click the Post Your Camera Ad’ button and get started on your listing. Include as much information as possible and be 100% truthful and open in your ad.

5 – Our listing form includes an optional price field where you can add the price that you’ll accept for your product. If you’re really not sure, don’t specify a minimum price and wait for offers from prospective buyers (regularly check your spam folder too in case buyer messages are inadvertently filtered). Prices can range from £100 to thousands of pounds!

6 – Once you’ve chosen a buyer and are happy with the offer, you and the buyer need to decide how payment will be made and how the product will be sent. For the safety of both parties, the use of PayPal is recommended for payments. As with all marketplaces, beware of fraudsters that may send fake email payment notifications or expect you to act off pending amounts in your PayPal account. We recommend you simply ignore emails that appear suspicious i.e. ask to pay you via ‘certified cheque’ or that involve ‘shipping companies’.

7 – Once payment has cleared, send the product via the agreed delivery method. We recommend recorded delivery. Some buyers and sellers prefer to meet in person. If you do exchange in person, please take the usual personal safety precautions.

8 – You’re done and you’ll have hopefully made a handsome profit! To prevent further queries just login to your personal dashboard and mark your ad as sold.

How do I buy a product?

Getty-Cameras attracts a wide range of professional and prosumer sellers and our platform makes it easy for you to sort through listings to find what you are looking for. This quick guide should help you buy quickly and easily:

1 – Browse through our listings to find kit you need.

2 – Examine attached photographs and read through the full description.

3 – Use the embedded contact form to ask questions or to make an offer.

4 – Once the seller has accepted your offer, agree on a delivery method and make payment. We recommend the use of PayPal as this is a widely recognised safe and secure method. Please do not offer certified cheques and money orders as this is a tactic often employed by scammers. We are quick to permanently ban users that show suspicious activity.
5 – Arrange delivery, preferably via a recorded service. Some buyers and sellers prefer to meet in person and assess the gear. If you do exchange in person, please take the usual personal safety precautions.

6 – Transaction complete! Be sure to come back soon to find any additional gear you may need.
